About Me

Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom
The group meets once a month to discuss one or two short texts set by the person leading the session. There is no set format for the reading group and we welcome different approaches and styles of debate. The primary purpose of this group is to provide a space in which material on gender, sexuality and identity can be discussed by informed readers – each bringing their own experiences, expertise and perspectives to the conversation. We hope it provides a useful place in which to rehearse and test out ideas about gender, sexuality and gendered subjects. The group is interdisciplinary, reflecting the nature and history of gender studies in the academy.

Wednesday 11 July 2012

To celebrate the end of the first semester of the Gendered Subjects Reading Group, we’d like to invite you to a screening of

Paris is Burning (Jennie Livingstone, 1990)

with nibbles and a glass of wine.

Paris is Burning is a chronicle of New York's drag scene in the 1980s, focusing on balls, voguing and the ambitions and dreams of those who gave the era its warmth and vitality.
Details of the film here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100332/

This happy event will take place on Monday 16th July 2012 at Northumbria University, Lipman Building Room 032 at 5pm.

Many thanks to everyone who suggested reading, ran a session, or helped organize the group.

If you can’t make it to this event we hope to see you when the sessions start again in October 2012 – let us know if you would like to suggest some reading for next year.
