About Me

Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom
The group meets once a month to discuss one or two short texts set by the person leading the session. There is no set format for the reading group and we welcome different approaches and styles of debate. The primary purpose of this group is to provide a space in which material on gender, sexuality and identity can be discussed by informed readers – each bringing their own experiences, expertise and perspectives to the conversation. We hope it provides a useful place in which to rehearse and test out ideas about gender, sexuality and gendered subjects. The group is interdisciplinary, reflecting the nature and history of gender studies in the academy.

This is an important message regarding the reading for our first meeting this Tuesday.

The reading has changed. We will now be considering the following articles:

'Still a Movement After all These Years? Current Tensions in the Domestic Violence Movement' by Amy Lehrner and Nicole E. Allen available here:

http://www.csaj.org/documents/378.pdf

'The erosion of feminist self and identity in community development theory and practice' by Sue Robson and Jean Spence which is available to those with an Athens login here:
http://cdj.oxfordjournals.org/content/46/3/288.full.pdf

Copies of the articles in PDF format are available, please contact us if you would like us to email you one.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday, it promises to be a really interesting evening
